After more than 20 years of operation, the production of process control components was stopped by the manufacturer; additionally, an expansive revision of the high-pressure turbine was due, and the fuel situation had changed. Also there was the opportunity to supply the Uniper Fernwärme GmbH grid with district heating. For STEAG Energy Services (SES) this meant independent project parts such as the retrofit of the firing system, the installation of a hot gas generator, the renewal of the process control technology and the increase of automatization of parts of the plant, the exchange of the high-pressure turbine part (incl. the live steam control and quick-acting valves) and the renovation of the central control room. The expansion of district heating into the grid of E.ON Fernwärme by two water-water heat exchanger with 160 MWth was also part of this. SES took over comprehensive services in concept planning, creation of the bidding material, construction-monitoring and commissioning for the multi-retrofit.
