Change of management at STEAG New Energies
Saarbrücken/Essen. Several changes are afoot in the management of Saarbrücken’s STEAG New Energies GmbH, a subsidiary of Essen-based energy company STEAG: Thomas Billotet, Chairman of the Management Board, will be entering his well-deserved retirement one month before his 65th birthday at the end of March 2022, and will be succeeded in the management board by Anke Langner (45), who was newly appointed effective January 1, 2022. Dr. Markus Laukamp (53), who has been a member of the management board since 2013, will be leaving STEAG New Energies of his own accord at the end of the month.
The scheduled departure of Thomas Billotet after 40 successful years with STEAG Group will herald a major management reshuffle at STEAG New Energies, with the long-serving co-managing director Dr. Markus Laukamp leaving the company of his own accord at the same time.
Anke Langner, a graduate physicist, was newly appointed to the management of STEAG New Energies at the beginning of the year. Having gained extensive sales experience in various management positions in the energy industry, Anke Langner now plans to bring this strength to bear in her new role: “I look forward to the new task of contributing to the successful transformation of STEAG as a whole with a committed and motivated team here in Saarbrücken,” Anke Langner says.
A convincing personality
The Group's parent company in Essen is likewise pleased: “I am delighted that, in Anke Langner, we have succeeded in attracting a proven expert with experience in leadership for the management of STEAG New Energies. Anke Langner impressed us with her high level of expertise and in the end prevailed convincingly from among a top-class selection of applicants,” says Dr. Ralf Schiele, STEAG director with responsibility for Market and Technology at STEAG GmbH, at the same time expressing his thanks to the two departing managing directors: “Thomas Billotet has borne responsibility at and for STEAG for decades. Both personally and on behalf of STEAG, I wish him a fulfilling retirement and more free time for family and personal interests in the future. My thanks, too, to Markus Laukamp for his dedication to STEAG over the past years. I wish him every success in his future career, along with the good fortune that comes with hard work.”
Anke Langner to form two-way management duo with Ulrich Sigel
Alongside Anke Langner, the new management at STEAG New Energies will be rounded off by Ulrich Sigel, who at the same time heads the business of another STEAG Group subsidiary, STEAG Energy Services GmbH. In turn, Anke Langner will join the management of Essen-based STEAG Energy Services GmbH, meaning that the business activities of the two companies will be managed in unison by an identical management duo.
“In this way, we are ensuring that the already tight-knit cooperation between important areas of operations within the STEAG Group will be even more closely synchronized in the future,” says Ralf Schiele explaining the motivation behind the two-way appointment of an identical management team.
Transformation of STEAG forging ahead
In the context of the rapidly progressing transformation, STEAG is increasingly focusing on new and strategically relevant business segments that hold promise for the future. These include activities in the field of renewable energies, in decarbonizing industry and heating, in hydrogen and storage technologies, and in digitalization. “Thanks to comprehensive technical and energy management expertise, for which the STEAG name stands nationally and internationally, we can offer our customers comprehensive energy solutions for optimizing their processes from a single source,” Ralf Schiele points out. This means that STEAG is making an important, cross-sector contribution to the success of the energy transition, he concludes.
